This section of the little seagull handbook helped me think about the remix of my essay into a visual/audio/digital text because if gave me ideas on which is more interested and more outstanding to the audience. It made me think how to approach the way to make my audience interested. A visual digital text is more likely to grab readers attention.

The sources helped me revise and edit my own work because my first draft wasn’t mla formatted and I thought it was, I followed all the steps. Mla formatting takes a couple attempts to do and fix. The handouts on blackboard that helped was the revision/editing common mistakes checklist and the revision/ editing checklist. These handouts helped me because it was common mistakes I did make that I caught onto and I changed it afterwards.

The little seagull handbook helped me understand finding a reputable source because the Mla formatting helped me. The formatting helped because I needed a revision on how to do it again. The work cited page was pretty easy because you’re citing were you got the information from with the authors name, if it was an article or a book.

Blog #7: What are Buckley and Mukherjee’s essays saying about media/pop culture?

Buckley and Mukherjee’s essays are saying media and pop culture can benefit from needed change. In Buckley’s essay he wants he’s readers to know more about the culture. The media culture impact was on empathy small inconveniences and make apathy towards larger concerns in American culture. In Mukherjee’s essay she wants her readers to know that culture doesn’t change her, we change ourselves. Pop culture in India is different from American culture.

Blog #5: Compare Gladwell’s reading to Carr Blog

In connection to what nontechnological phenomenon does each writer discuss his technological topic?

In the article ” Google is making us stupid” by Nicholas Carr, Carr says that we use the internet more than we use our intellectual minds. We can find things within seconds just by searching on google. Carr thinks using the internet doesn’t make us appreciate the hard cover version of things and it affects our reading. Carr can’t keep up with the online readings instead he prefers the book which he can gaze smoothly. Carr believes google will make mess our future thinking and reading skills. In the article ” Small change: why the revolution will not be tweeted” by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell compares modern day affects of the internet with the Civil Rights movement events in the past. Certain advantages like social networking is powerful for bringing together effectiveness in social changes. Present day, using social networking Gladwell states ” where activists were once defined by their causes, they are now defined by its tools.” Gladwell explains the internet is fast but only spreads information out with no motivation of the social networking the activist requires. Gladwell doesn’t believe the new revolution can be around social networks. In my opinion, both Carr and Gladwell well-being on social networking was to make a difference and state a point. Social networking now is huge and is what most people base for their daily information.

Blog #4: What are authors’ viewpoints on education blog

In “The Fourth of July” by Audre Lorde, I feel the authors viewpoint on education in her excerpt was to educate the readers on their history on equal rights and racism. In “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris, the authors viewpoint on education was never let age stop you from further your educational career. Overall, both authors viewpoint was no matter what age you should always know little things to further your education — from 10 years about racism to 41 years old trying to obtain a college degree.

Blog #3: Rhetorical Analysis Final Draft Process Note

Process Note: I’ve came to my first draft by looking through the journals and making a connection that most readers to relate to. No, I did not go to the writing center and yes I did brainstorm. The instructions that helped me was the video on logos, pathos, and ethos was the violinist. The blackboard materials that helped me was the sample rhetorical analysis essay. I don’t think I faced any challenges with this paper. Yes, I did come prepared with my peer reviews. I don’t believe there’s anything else to know about the first draft I think the essay was straight forward. 

Blog #2: What are the authors’ saying about language and identity blog

The authors’ saying that language and identity of “Mother’s Tongue” by Amy Tan was they were Chinese trying to learn English. Amy’s mothers dialect was difficult to understand. Some people can understand her and some people made it seem like it was horrible for her to talk. Most times since her mothers English was broken English she would have her daughter translate into proper English. The daughter, Amy, understood her mother clearly because it was her mothers tongue, the language that she was used to hearing. She was used to hearing that language everyday unlike to someone who just met her mother. Over time her mothers English has became better and the mother said it was easy to read and understand her article.

The author’s language and identity in “How to tame a tongue” by Gloria Anzaldúa was difficult and using their own was like a punishment if they didn’t speak English. Gloria’s native tongue was Spanish. She knew all the different types of Spanish. Sometimes the dialects switch up because of the going back and forth between languages of English and Spanish native tongue. The type of language they are using are code meshing and broken English dialect.

Blog #1: Should Writers Use They Own English Response

I agree with Young. A writer should be able to use their own English. All writers don’t use the same style or language that’s what makes them unique. You’ll be surprised that some good writers are Black or Asian or a person of an accent which makes themselves targets to racism. Young stated, ” And Fish himself acquiesce to this linguistic prejudice when he come saying that people make themselves targets for racism if and when they don’t write and speak like he do.” I disagree to agree to this because before even knowing the author of a piece it could be good but if there is race involved it becomes racist and in some cases people be minding their business but still people make them a target to racism. Every author has their own dialect language. An authors dialect language makes up their style. As in the passage it’s says, ” Instead, it mean that the one set of rules that people be applyin to everybody’s dialects leads to perceptions that writers need “remedial training” or that speakers of dialects are dumb.” I think people with dialects are intelligent and it’s the English Standard they have to perfect. There’s also a form of language dialect that most good writings use that connects to their readers it’s called code meshing. This technique is very unique and professional, it uses style, flavors, professionalism, and your own language dialect into one form. So yes I do agree with Young that a writer should use their own English.
